Digital GEM Plug-in
The Digital GEM Plug-in is a member of the Applied Science Fiction image correction and enhancement plug-in family for Adobe® Photoshop® and compatible image editing applications. Digital GEM gives you an easy and effective way to reduce noise and grain, resulting in a more visually pleasing image, whether your digital images are from a film scanner, flatbed, digital camera, or CD.
Image noise can be caused by a variety of factors including, high speed film grain, adverse lighting conditions, scanner/digital camera CCD noise, or image enlargement. Digital GEM utilizes two noise reduction slider controls which allow users to isolate and manage noise/grain in both highlight and shadow areas separately without sacrificing image detail.
The GEM plug-in dialog box also includes a "Clarity" slider control which provides an easy way to produce additional artistic effects. Users can achieve soft focus effects similar to those used in professional portrait studios by moving the slider to the left, the "soften" side. When users move the slider to the right, the "sharpen" side, image sharpening is applied, which surpasses most of the standard “unsharp mask” filters.
