Spam CSI - Crime Scene Investigator
Spam CSI - Crime Scene Investigator treats Spam like a crime and goes after the criminals. Used by Police Departments worldwide. The program takes advantage of the fact that most spam messages contain web links, that they want you to click on. It scans your POP mailbox and investigates the links found in your new email messages and then crawls through their web site to look for evidence. It will then score both the email message and web site using a comprehensive 1,200 word database and proprietary forensic techniques that will let you know exactly what is going on behind the message. You can then choose to have the program send a complaint to their ISP or the State Attorney General, or simply delete the message. You can maintain a database of trusted and denied domains or senders and also modify the keyword database and more. SpamCSI comes with a complete set of spam related networking tools that allow you to investigate each email in detail. The program is not for the faint hearted, since it offers many advanced features and should be considered a hands-on anti-spam toolbox for advanced users. Bugs fixed, very stable now. Version 6.1 is the best release yet. Can migrate databases now, more intelligent domain filter, added top level domain filtering and domain validation. Good work on this one! |

Great idea, but VERY buggy. (hangs frequently and occasionally locks up system completely) Developer admitted in e-mail that he removes bug reports/complaints from his support forum so as not to look bad. (if I'd known that before I registered, I'd have passed it by) I'd advise potential purchasers to use the freeware version for a while and make sure it's going to work for you before you shell out your cash for this program.
Another SERIOUS drawback is that you lose your custom database entries whenever you upgrade to a new version. That's right - you have to start all over again with each new version. Developer says he's working on an import/export utility to solve this issue, but for now, that's how it is.
Could also use more flexibility in filtering, like the ability to use wildcards. You can have spammers-r-us.com in your denied domains list, and mail1.spammer-r-us.com will still get through. If you add mail1.spammers-r-us.com to the blocked list, mail2.spammers-r-us.com will still get through, etc.
This would be a great program if it weren't for the bugs and the database issues. |
